1 JOHN 1: 5-2:6

Key Verse

“If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins He is faithful and righteous, so that He will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness”.

1 John 1:8-9

INTRODUCTION

Sometimes we get something to eat that does not taste good even though we are told it is good for us.  We know that sometimes we do not like what is good for us and then we need someone to give us guidance on what is allright. There is only one person that can really give us good guidance and that person is named God.

The good thing about Him is that He communicated with us and sent His Son to guide us and show that He is loving, kind, merciful, and wants the best for us.  He sacrificed Himself for human beings and so we know He will certainly help us. He is faithful and wants us to know the truth about the world, about people, and about what is happening around us.

If we refuse to believe what He is saying it will not be pleasant for us. God wants to avoid that. So He had the Apostle John write to the members of the churches reminding them of God’s love and His great treatment for us.

His Son was a real person and John tells us he touched Jesus, held Him, and so he knows that God really sent a great living Helper to be with us. This Helper wants all those who believe in Him to act like He acted and be good and kind to each other.

We should love and care for each other as He and His Father cared for people. His Father and He lived in the light so that anything that was not so good would show all its imperfections. There were not even one little speck of something that was not nice in the light and so He invited us in this light with Him. There everything would be out in the open and people would see their relationship with each other would be perfect.

God promised to clean us up from anything that was wrong with us, so that we come into the light with Him where everything would be perfect.

So listen to Him and do not fool yourself that you know a better way than the one He told you about. His way is perfect and totally good. We will be safe in the light with Him. There we will have many blessings . We and all the people who come to Jesus will be in the best possible place. So let us obey Him and accept His promises which are true and righteous.
