INTRODUCTION
The LORD is the Creator of all things in the universe and He infinite in power, wisdom, knowledge, ability. He is majesty itself, and that means He has dazzling beauty and splendour. Holiness and separation from evil and what is wrong is an essential part of Him. So also is love and compassion for what He has created. That is why we call Him Father. Since He is the Heavenly Father, He knows everything about us. He made us out of the dust of the earth and filled us with the breath of life. He is not surprised at what we do and so He works to change all those that come to Him so that they will be transformed over time and then be with Him through all eternity.
David knew all that was necessary to know about the heavenly Father and in this Psalm he examined much of his experiences that reminded himself of what God had done for him, his family, and the nation. He recounted what God had done and tells us the proper response is to
Bless the Lord, O my soul.
He says plainly that human beings are dependent on God’s love, mercy, compassion and pity for our survival. We know God is the Creator and the Ruler and He controls all that happens for He works all things to achieve His purposes and complete His Plan for the creation.
So David reminds us we are also to bless and praise God. He therefore exhorts his soul to change the slowness we have to recognize and act on the fact that God is sovereign and His throne is established over all. God’s throne will last forever and utmost respect and reverence should be shown to Him.
God had given David many benefits. He tells us we should never forget that fact. God is so loving and kind He had made a covenant, a most firm agreement and arrangement with all those that feared Him and obeyed Him.
God forgave all David’s sins and transgressions. God healed David’s sicknesses and diseases. God paid the price David should have paid for his sins, and redeemed him from the destruction he deserved. God took him out of bondage and gave him a crown. God crowned him, and with His lovingkindness showed him tender mercies, like a mother showed her child. God, through the difficulties and hardships he had experienced, God had satisfied his needs filling his mouth with good things. God had even renewed his strength as it fill off when he grew older. God had made him young like the eagle who had been renewed when it became old.
God’s ways were righteous and just, and His mercy was so great toward him that God had separated his sins from him so far that it could be compared to the distance between east and west, the distance heaven was far from the earth. God treated him as a father treated his son whose personality, his weakness and his strength he knew completely.
David therefore began his Psalm 103 with Bless the Lord, O my soul, and at the end of the Psalm David repeated his intention and his deep and unforgettable commitment to God with
Bless the Lord, O my soul.
We should do what David advised. We should never forget who God is and what He has done for us and all humanity. God’s throne is established and His works are incredibly great and dazzlingly beautiful. God is most loving, kind and compassionate for He knows us in and out. So bless Him , love Him, and stay right at His side forever.
