INTRODUCTION.
There are certain things that will happen for sure when you forget how you have done things in the past and what has happened. You will remember what you have been taught for those teachings will benefit you. If you want a cup of tea you know that you have to get a tea bag, put water in the kettle and turn on the stove, and then have a cup ready with the tea bag in it so that you can put the hot water in the cup to make tea.
If you know that times are hot and you feel sticky and you do not want your body to smell the way you do not want it to smell you know you have to take a shower. Your parents have taught you that. So there are millions of things that we know you have to do if you want to achieve the things you want to achieve. If you do not do any of those things you won’t get the water to make the tea.
God knows everything that will ever happen and He has planned perfectly. Anything that God wants to happen will happen and we know that this is a good thing for we know that God loves us and wants the best for us. He has told us how we are to live and we know that if we follow what He has instructed we will do very well in life.
But not only has God told us the great things that we should do if we want to live a good life He also does great works, great things for us, so that we will see how He works and we will remember what He has done for us. We might forget what we should do to have a good life but God never forgets.
God is what we call omniscient. Besides this He is omnipresent, which means He’s everywhere. And also God is also Almighty, which means that there is nothing that He cannot do and will do for us.
God took the children of Israel out of slavery in Egypt because He loved them and God took them through the wilderness straight into the land of Canaan where they inherited a good land with all kind of houses and all kinds of farms and fruit trees. The agreement that God made with them was that they were to obey Him and trust Him and live according to His commandments. They really should have no difficulty doing this because they had seen for themselves with their own eyes the miracles that God had done on their behalf. God’s works were great and marvellous. He performed all kinds of miracles when God was taking care of them.
But unfortunately after life got so good and they got their inheritance they did not obey God and they got themselves into serious trouble. Their enemies conquered them and made them live a tough life. Then they cried to God and asked God to free them from their oppression and God, since He was so merciful and kind, did send people to help them.
But that was not the only problem that they had. Also because of their disobedience they developed all kind of bad attitudes and so they did what they thought God wanted to do instead of doing what God had told them to do. They thought that they could determine what was the best thing for them and so they did what was right in their own eyes. That led to disaster for them and we read the various sorry stories in the book of Judges especially in chapters 17 and 18 about the difficulties that the people of Israel and especially the tribe of Dan had. They did all kind of wicked things instead of obeying God and they were punished by being captured and kicked out of the land of Canaan by their enemies.
So we know the lesson. We should not forget who God is and what He has done for us. We should remember that God has done marvellous and multiple works for us and we should never forget that. So we know we can trust God. We should love Him just as how He loved us.
We know that God has taken us into His family because we are part of the covenant that God made with His people who have accepted him as their God. So let us do the same faithful behaviour as the obedient people of Israel and make sure we do not do the unrighteous behaviour as some did.
Avoid trouble. Stick to God. Be obedient to God and be humble in the sight of God and He will do everything for you and will save you.
