INTRODUCTION.
Everything in the world changes from time to time. Plants change their colours, caterpillars turn into beautiful butterflies. Tiny seeds when planted seem miraculously to grow into large and tall trees. Even tiny babies grasp for air and cry for their mother’s breast milk as soon as they are born. Then they grow up to be tall and strong people like you are.
So everything can change. The same principle applies in the world of personality, behaviour and attitudes. People can think and behave in ways that are not pleasing to God, but then they can make an about turn when faced with God. When some meet God they recognize Him and His glory. And then they change and begin to grow and do as God wants them to do.
But some are so rebellious that even when they see the beauty and love of God they want to continue doing what they have always done. They want to get the benefit of being with God but they want to remain as they are. The saying summarizes their behaviour. “They want to have their cake and eat it”.
But the man who became the apostle Paul (his name was Saul),and who before he was changed by God used to persecute, beat, and kill Christians, people who believe that Jesus Christ had come from God the Father to save them from death, met Jesus.
When he was travelling to Damascus to capture Christians and bring them back to Jerusalem for imprisonment, he was changed by God. Jesus questioned him and he knew he had to stop doing what he was dong and instead tell everyone that only Jesus could save them from eternal death.
He was travelling on the road with some companions and at midday when the sun was bright, suddenly a light much brighter than the sunlight shone on Saul and he was struck blind. A voice came to him and he saw Jesus who asked him, Why are you persecuting me?
Paul was stunned when Jesus told him he was persecuting Him by beating, and putting Christians in prison.
Saul was stunned for he realized he had been sinning against God. He had not realized he was doing wrong. He thought that by persecuting Christians he was pleasing God. His plans were foolish plans. They had to be changed. So Saul accepted Jesus as his God who ruled over the entire world and whose plans could not be changed. Jesus had all the power and He ruled over the affairs of men from heaven.
So Saul accepted who Jesus was, the Saviour and the Messiah, and he was changed. He ceased from being a Pharisee who did not believe Jesus was the promised Messiah who had come from God the Father to save the nation of Israel and turn them into the complete people of God. He became a believer in Jesus. He had seen and heard Jesus speak to him. He became a believer and became a Christian. His job was now to tell everyone about Jesus and the salvation people could find when they came to him.
That is the great Lesson for us today. Coming to Jesus, meeting Him, will meet many blessings and eternal life for you.
