INTRODUCTION
Do you like to have someone tell you that you are nice and that you are doing well? It has a nice feeling. Come on, admit it. It feels very nice to get that kind of compliment doesn’t it! Well, God the Father congratulated Jesus for doing everything that He was supposed to do perfectly. And when Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist God gave Him the best compliment that anyone could ever have for when Jesus went up out of the water the heavens were opened, and the Spirit of God came down on Jesus like a dove. Then the Father in Heaven spoke and told Jesus that He was His beloved Son and He was well pleased with everything that Jesus had done. The lesson is that we should do well so that we will get all these great compliments from our parents, or our friends, and from those in our church.
This showed the love that God the Father had for His Son. This is very important for the Bible tells us that you are also a son of God and God loves you a great deal.
When Jesus went to be baptized in the River Jordan John the Baptist was there preaching to a lot of grown up people and John the Baptist accused them of not helping the poor giving them food clothing and shelter. The Baptist warned them that God’s own Son was coming soon and He would be angry. So they got kind of nervous and even though they had been selfish they agreed to change their ways so that God would forgive their sins. They then got baptized so we learn a lesson from that.
We too when we love God should be baptized just like Jesus was baptized. And when you get baptized you should begin to live a different kind of life where you are helpful to people and love people. When Jesus came to be baptized John the Baptist did not want to baptize Him because John felt that Jesus was the Son of God and was superior to all human beings on earth so he didn’t expect that Jesus would want him John to baptize Jesus. But Jesus told him it was the best thing to do for God wanted people to be baptized.
Jesus wanted His disciples that he gathered together to teach others about God and to bring new people in from all over the world. They two should be baptized so that they would be able to celebrate the Lord’s Supper or Communion and join with other to thank Jesus for dying on the Cross for their sins and then being resurrected so that He would go back to heaven to represent us.
That’s a very important job for you today just as it was for the apostles and disciples. So you want to follow Jesus’ example and teach others about what it means to follow Jesus. You have to teach them about the kindness of God, and how God takes care of the people that are not doing so well in life.
You are a disciple of Jesus and so you should think about it carefully,, learn about Jesus, and spend some time with others that want to learn about Jesus.
Jesus wants us to be His disciples and so He told us to go and make disciples of all nations to carry on the work that He had left behind. Jesus loves everybody for He created all human beings, animals, birds, fish in the sea and all life forms. Jesus wants you to tell everybody that at and pray for them so that some will accept Him as their Saviour. Some will accept Him and some won’t but you do not have to worry about that for the Holy Spirit would take care of everything.
Jesus has a special invitation is for us as well for we can be disciples of Jesus, receiving God’s very great love, and offering this great love of God to others. So commit yourself to Him and follow His example, for He wants you to work with Him to save others from being lost and so live away from God which will not be a pleasant thing.
