Psalm 10:17
INTRODUCTION
The LORD is a God which has made a covenant with those who believe on the salvation work of the Lord Jesus Christ, and so accept Him as their Redeemer. This means He is the Lord of their life, and they belong to Him, becoming a part of His family and having the blessings of the Almighty God poured out on them.
This King is the Creator of the Universe and all that is in it. It belongs to Him. He loves all that He has created and always works for their welfare.
But there are some men who are against God and want to do whatever their hearts desire. They work in secrecy and oppress those that are helpless and weak. Their behaviour is so terrible and hurts so many people that believers in God wonder why God who had infinite power does not stop them right away. So the psalmist David complains to God as to why He behaves as if He is absent, and allows the evil men who prey on the weak and continue doing their dastardly deeds. They even boast about what they do. They talk that God does not see them and will not interfere with them. They are proud and boastful and always try to trick and deceive others. They seemed to being successful doing evil while those that follow the ways of God do not have as happy a life as the evil men. The evil men acted as if they had forgotten that there would be a Day of the Lord when all evil would be judged and eliminated.
But then David considered what He was saying. He stopped blaming God for he knew that God had acted in the past to destroy wicked people. He had said He would destroy evil and so David knew He had to be patient for sometimes very wicked people repent and begin to do good as God wanted.
David knew God could change the heart of anyone who was humble. He prayed for this and so we knew we should pray to God to change people who were doing wrong.
So we must understand that God has a passion to save souls and we should develop that same kind of passion. Understanding this is very difficult for us human beings. Instead of praying for God to destroy the evil men right now, we should pray for God to change them.
While we wait on God we know we must do all we can to help the weak, the fatherless, the orphans, and those who cannot help themselves. In doing that we will be doing what God loves. We will then be more and more like our Lord who we know is King, the ruler and controller of the Universe. He will always be on the throne forever. We will share in His glory if we follow him and become like Him, for we know God is a faithful God who will always seek our welfare.
So join Him and ask the Holy Spirit to make you more and more like Him, doing what He does, and loving what He loves.
