1 Corinthians 13: 13

INTRODUCTION

It started when you were very, very young. You could not help yourself to do anything. You could not find food, eat, wash yourself, find by yourself some place to sleep safely, find any way to be comfortable, or to do anything really.

Then the most important person in the world was your mother and your father and in your mind you always wanted to be near them, to see them, and have been touch you, hold you, and talk to you, listening and concentrating on what you were saying and asking for. You wanted to feel all the time as if you were the only person in the world for them.

That is how parents are. You did not understand why you felt like that. But you did feel like that even if you came to know you had other brothers and sisters which you came to love.

That is how God treated you. He is like a big parent and He loves you more than even your mother and father love you. He concentrates on you every moment of your life.Nothing about you can miss Him.

Your parents really behave like God does to you and so every day they do things to benefit you. These are acts of love. Love is an action word.

Love therefore is an action word. It is much more than having a warm fuzzy feeling about someone. It is a determination or an act of your will to do great things for another person. It is exactly the same as what motivated God for He loves you and would do everything possible to put you on the right track to have you come to be with Him.

This Love is the most important thing for it guarantees that you will be treated well. God tells us that without Love nothing that one does makes sense. God considers you to be a “zero” if you do not always act with love behind your actions. The most important thing is to have love for God and love for others.

Note there are other great things such as faith, and hope. They are very important but they are not as great as Love. Why is this?

Remember that Faith is shown in the way we respond to what God has provided for us now and what He will provide in future. We believe that God will continue to provide for us throughout all eternity. Our Faith will therefore continue because it is really our determination to respond to what God has done and will do for us. Faith means that we will always lean on God. Faith therefore is a great thing and we cannot treat it very lightly.

The next great thing is Hope. Hope involves trust. It means that we expect God to turn things around for us and we will not be ashamed or disappointed. We therefore wait on God eagerly expecting that God will look after us and reward us for putting confidence in Him

We know that even when we are with God there will be all kinds of good things to come. God is so great and His mind is infinite or without limits that when we are with Him in Paradise we will continue to enjoy ever-increasing experiences of God’s goodness. God will open new adventures and experiences with us, with new things that we do as we live with Him.

Hope therefore means that we look forward expectantly to live in “hope”, but fully expecting that our life in the future will be better and better because of God’s love and goodness.

No matter how you imagine the future with God would be interesting it will be even better and more exciting. Hope means that we will have definitely great things, more and more and more.

But all of these rest on the fact that God is Love.  This special kind of love is Divine Love. It is most important. We cannot live without it. Because of Divine Love it is the greatest of Faith, Hope, and Love. Divine Love is the foundation of everything. Because of it we look forward to the future knowing that our ultimate blessing to be with God is guaranteed.

Our task then is to tell all people about the love of God and invite them to talk to God and listen to the invitation that the Holy Spirit of God gives to everybody, for remember that God loves all the beings that He has created.

And on top of that God wants you to love them also and help them in every way you can.
